National Institutes of Health/Canadian Health Research Foundation The National Institutes of Health/Canadian Health Research Foundation are funding a grant to establish the BC Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium Network. Dr. Jim Christenson is the Prinicpal Investigator in British Columbia.

The BC center partnered with the Ottawa/OPALS site is one of 10 new regional clinical centers that the NIH and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research is establishing throughout the U.S. and Canada. The funding will be allocated over the next 3 years to support research in U.S. centers located in Iowa City, Birmingham, Dallas, Milwaukee, Pittsburg, Portland, Seattle and San Diego; in Canada, centers will be located in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto.

This government-funded EMS research effort is viewed to be unprecedented, and considered by most experts to be the "EMS research opportunity of the century."

Over the life of this grant, a series of clinical trials will be conducted with the intent to improve patient outcome from cardiac arrest and serious traumatic injury. BC is one of the largest regional centers and is unique due to its rural population. At the forefront of resuscitation research, the BC ROC will benefit BC by providing participating emergency medical services around the province with funding, equipment, and specialized training.
